The War Memorial for Pelsall (Walsall)
Photo : Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>)
The Pelsall War Memorial stands on a small green at the top end of Station Road, where Station Road meets Norton Road.
The memorial is a simple cross, standing on an octagonal plinth and three stepped base. The names of those who lost their lives in both World Wars are on bronze plaques attached to the sides of the plinth. The dedication, which used to be on one of the sides of the plinth, has been removed and fixed to the ground in front of the memorial.
107 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 19 names for the Second World War.
A transcription of the names on the memorial, together with photos of all of the plaques, can be found on the website for the Burntwood Family History Group.
One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.
We are very grateful to Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) for photographs of the memorial.
