Peter Appleton (<peter.appleton3@ntlworld.com>) has provided photos and biograhical data on his grandfather, Lance Corporal Fred Appleton of the 4th Battalion, for which we are extremely grateful.
Immediately below are some individual photos of Fred Appleton.

3. A letter to his sweetheart, 15 April 1915 (his future wife) on departing for the Western Front.

4. A letter to his sweetheart, 2 December 1915 (his future wife) written from the Western Front, which includes a poem.

5. A letter to his wife, 11 November 1918 on hearing news of the Armistice.

6. A poem describing the band of the 4th Battalion "in action".

7. A poem, thought to have been written in part after Fred Appleton's wedding leave in April 1918.
