The Battlefield CRoss for the Earl of Feversham in Pockley's Parish Church The Battlefield Cross for the Earl of Feversham in Pockley's Parish Church

The original Battlefield Cross for the Earl of Feversham can be found in the church of St. John the Baptist, Pockley. This cross is now in a sad and neglected state. It was originally positioned on the wall, - see photo below, with interpretative material. From the UK National Inventory of War Memorials website the cross was originally in "good condition" and the lettering on it was clearly legible.
The original inscription on the cross was;-

IN/ MEMORY/ OF/ LT. COL. THE/ EARL OF FEVERSHAM/ 21ST KINGS/ ROYAL RIFLES./ KILLED WHEN LEADING/ HIS REGIMENT/ SEPT. 15TH 1916.

There is another Battlefield Cross commemorating the Earl of Feversham. This is located at Rievaulx, and is almost certainly a cross that would have been erected over his grave AFTER the one in Pockley's church.

Further information on the Earl of Feversham is provided on the page for the Battlefield Cross at Rievaulx.
