This magnificent memorial is situated on the Causeway in the model village of Port Sunlight. It must be one of the largest and finest war memorials outside of London and was erected by Lever Brothers Limited to commemorated their employees and those from Port Sunlight who died in the First World War.
There are 503 names inscribed including at least one Yorkshire Regiment man, Pte. Fred Hancock who lived in nearby Rock Ferry.


Private Fred Hancock. 38760. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 9 April 1917.
Born Birkenhead (Ches), Enlisted Birkenhead, Resided Rock Ferry.
Commemorated on Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
