We are very grateful to Norman Nicholson (<micknicholson1@btinternet.com>), grandson of Fred Nicholson, for supplying the photos and information on his grandfather.
Both Fred and Harry Nicholson came from Masham in North Yorkshire.
Fred Nicholson fought with the 9th Battalion and was wounded in January 1916.
On recovering from his wounds, he was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps,
with whom he served for the rest of the war.
