The War Memorial in St. Romald's Church, Romaldkirk, is in wood. Two doors open out, showing the names of those who fell in both the First and Second World Wars, revealing a copper cross in the main body of the memorial.

Born Kendal (Cumberland), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Darlington.
Buried PHILOSOPHE BRITISH CEMETERY, MAZINGARBE.

Private Wilfred George Close. 30586. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Robert Dawson Close and Mary Arm Close, of Hazelgill, Bowes, Yorks. Killed 10 July 1918. Aged 29.
Born Bowes, Enlisted Startforth, Resided Bowes (Darlington)
Buried PHILOSOPHE BRITISH CEMETERY, MAZINGARBE.

Private Frederick Donald. 18857. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Annie Donald, of Central Buildings, Romaldkirk, Darlington, and the late John William Donald. Killed 8 May 1918. Aged 26.
