The Memorial can be found in the Market Place in front of the Guildhall, Salisbury.

This Salisbury War Memorial was inaugurated on Sunday 12th February 1922. It was unveiled by Lieutenant T. E. Adlam V.C. - an ex Bishop Wordsworth's School pupil. It was dedicated by Revd W. R. F. Addison V.C. in the presence of the Bishop of Salisbury. The £2,500 memorial was manufactured from Portland stone and embellished with bronze and marble by Messrs H. H. Martyn & Company of Cheltenham.

461 names are commemorated on this memorial, including 2 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment. The names on the memorial have been transcribed and are available on the Salisbury Plaques website. Details of the Yorkshire Regiment soldiers are below.

The memorial dedication reads;-
"In honour and remembrance of the citizens of Salisbury / who served who fought who died / for freedom home and humanity
1914-1919.

For your tomorrow we gave our today.
We honour all those who gave their lives in the service of the country in the second world war and all conflicts since.
We will remember them."


Captain Francis Dodgson. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Henley F. Dodgson, of Bovingdon, Herts. Educated at Marlborough College and Trinity College, Cambridge. Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 27.
Buried SERRE ROAD CEMETERY No.2.
(Was commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, - an example of a body being recovered and identified after the name was put on a memorial as having no known grave.)
Also commemorated on the Trnity College, Cambridge, War Memorial.

Lance Corporal Ishmael Newbury. 9353. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs Ruth Newbury of 41 Scotts Lane, Salisbury, Wilts. Killed 15 June 1915. Aged 29.
Born Stockton, Enlisted Salisbury, Resided Stockton
Commemorated on the Addenda Panel, LE TOURET MEMORIAL.
