The memorial originally stood in the Brunner Mond Works at Sandbach. It now stands in the cemetery on The Hill (a road), Sandbach, following relocation in 1934 on closure of the Brunner Mond Works.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the above memorial. However, he is shown on the memorial as being in the 2nd/1st Yorkshire Hussars, and only one soldier served with the Yorkshire Regiment who also came from the district (and had a mother from the district).


Private Joseph Wakefield. 33818. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly T/260925 R A S C. Son of Mrs. H. Wakefield, of 46, Albert St., Lytham. Died at home 30 October 1918. Aged 28.
Born Manchester, Enlisted Manchester, Resided Eccles.
Buried LYTHAM (ST. JOHN THE DIVINE) CHURCHYARD.
