Private William Lake, 4061. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 17 September 1916.
Enlisted Scarborough.
Buried DELVILLE WOOD CEMETERY, LONGUEVAL.

Lance Corporal William Lancaster. 30576. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of George and Harriet Lancaster, of 6, Trafalgar St., Scarborough; husband of Annie Isabella Lancaster, of 32, Clayton St., East Hartlepool. Killed 20 April 1918. Aged 30.
Born Scarborough, Enlisted Scarborough.
Buried LAPUGNOY MILITARY CEMETERY.

2nd Lieutenant Henry Lawrence. 5th Battalion attached to 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late James and Adeline Lawrence, of 71, Manor Rd., Scarborough. Killed 17 January 1917. Aged 26.
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3A & 3D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
Although Scarborough, above, is a district in Toronto, Henry Lawrence WAS born in the North Yorkshire Scarborough. The following notes are from Robert Coulson's Biographies of Officers in The Yorkshire Regiment;-
"Henry Lawrence was born in Scarborough and was educated at All Saints School and the Municipal School in the town.
He then went to Canada and at the onset of war joined Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry serving in France from June 1915.
He then returned to England and gained his commission joining the 6th Battalion after their return from Gallipoli and Egypt.
He joined up with the battalion at Beaumetz in October of 1916.
The battalion stayed in the Somme sector through Christmas of 1916 and 2nd Lt Henry Lawrence was killed in action during a night patrol close to Beaucourt on January 17th 1917."

Born Hunmanby (Yorks), Enlisted Scarborough.

Private George Albert Laybourne. 1943. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Rachel E. Laybourne, of 9, Auboro' St., Scarborough, and the late Henry Laybourne. Killed 28 May 1915. Aged 20.
Enlisted Scarborough.
Commemorated Panel 33, Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Lance Corporal Arthur Donald Leadbeater. 19766. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 4 June 1916.
Born Scarborough, Enlisted Scarborough.
Buried CERISY-GAILLY MILITARY CEMETERY.

Corporal Harry Leefe. 18932. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Elizabeth Leefe, of Scarborough; husband of Elvina May Leefe, of 22, Gladstone St., Scarborough, Yorks. Killed 15 October 1916. Aged 22.
Born Scarborough, Enlisted Scarborough.
Buried STE. MARIE CEMETERY, LE HAVRE.

Private Charles William Lenton. 1840. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Peter and Annie Lenton, of 40, Pepper Lane, Hunslet, Leeds. Killed 29 May 1915. Aged 19.
Born Norton (Malton), Enlisted Scarborough, Resided Leeds.
Commemorated Panel 33, Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Private Thomas Longman. 9237. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 29 June 1915.
Born Leeds, Enlisted Scarborough.
Buried HINGES MILITARY CEMETERY.

2nd Lieutenant Wilfred Robert Lowson. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. W. S. and Mrs. E. Lowson, of 16, Westborough, Scarborough. Killed 15 September 1916. Aged 25.
Buried ADANAC MILITARY CEMETERY, MIRAUMONT.

Serjeant Charles Wesley Proud Lyth. 42535. 76th Coy. Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 15239 the Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Carrie Lyth, of 73, Falsgrave Rd., Scarborough. Killed 5 May 1917. Aged 30.
Born Scarborough, Enlisted Scarborough.
