Scorton is a village near Catterick in North Yorkshire. Scorton Grammar School was in existence from 1720, but closed in 1991 and is now used for residential accommodation.
The Roll of Honour for the school now hangs in the Village Hall, located opposite the old Grammar School across the village Green.
The Roll of Honour is a brass plaque, mounted in a wooden frame. This plaque commemorates 17 past pupils who lost their lives in the First World War. Two of those pupils were soldiers who had served in the Yorkshire Regiment.
One curiosity of this history is that the school Cadet Corps (founded 1916) was affiliated to the 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, though only 2 of the 17 pupils who are named on the Plaque served in the regiment.
