In 1902 Sheffield steelmakers John Brown and Company exchanged shares and came to a working agreement with neighbouring company Thomas Firth & Sons. The companies continued under their own management until they merged in 1930 becoming Firth Brown Steels. At the time of the First World War steel products were produced at the Atlas Works on Attercliffe Road.
The First World War Memorial for the Atlas Works commemorates 145 men employed by the company. The names have been transcribed and are presented with brief biographical details on the Roll of Honour website.
Originally hanging in the Atlas Works, the present owners of the property are the ATI Allvac Ltd Cyclops Works. The building itself is part of the President Buildings Office Park, located on the Attercliffe Road (A6109) between Firth Drive and Norroy Street.
Amongst the 145 names commemorated on the memorial is one soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment.
