The Shepshed War Memorial was originally located in the Market Place but is now to be found in Glenmore Park which was laid out in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V.

The memorial is a Portland Stone pillar with commemorative plaques attached. 146 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 36 names for the Second World War. The First World War commemorations do not go beyond 1918.

A transcription of all the names on the memorial can be found on the Shepshed Town Council website.

Amongst the names commemorated from the First World War is that of Pte. Walter Brotherhood of the Yorkshire Regiment.


Private Walter Brotherhood. 46179. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Elizabeth Brotherhood, of Church Lane, Shepshed, Loughborough. Died 11 April 1918. Aged 24.
Born Shepshed (Leics), Enlisted Mansfield, Resided Shepshed.
