The Sherburn Village War Memorial is located at the top end of Hope Street, near the junction with Front Street.
The memorial is of stone with a curved top and two flanking wings, slightly raked. The centre slab bears the dedication with a laurel wreath at centre. The left hand wing carries the names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. The right hand wing carries the names of those who lost their lives in the Second World War.

41 names of men who fell in the First World War are commemorated on the memorial, and a further 20 for those who died in the Second World War. A transcription of all the names can be found on the website for the North East War Memorials Project.

Four men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.

We are very grateful for Norman Cummings (<norman_cummings@hotmail.co.uk>) for providing the photographs of this memorial.
