The War Memorial for Silksworth is located in Silksworth Park, off MIller Terrace in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.
The memorial is a sculpture of a soldier holding a rifle, standing on a square
granite pedestal.
189 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War,
and 55 in the Second World War (including 9 civilians).

Private Matthew Briggs. 50813. 2nd/8th Battalion Manchester Regiment,
formerly 45116 Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Matthew and Annie Briggs.
Killed 10 October 1917. Aged 34.
Born Waterhouses (Durham), Enlisted Sunderland, Resided Silksworth (Durham).

Private Thomas Chapman. 15997. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chapman, of New Sillsworth, Co. Durham. Killed
26 September 1915. Aged 19.

Son of James and the late Isabella Ellemor; husband of Selina Ellemor, of

25.

(From a surviving Attestation Record, Albert Spence was a 24 year old (17
August 1917) Craneman living at 62 Somerset Cottages, New Silksworth. His
wife was Letitia and son Ronald (born 28 July 1917). His Pension record referes
to his wife as "Lilian" and son, Ronald. There is no record of him
being a Serjeant, as shown on the memorial.)
