Lieutenant Thomas Henry Thriscutt BALE.
2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Emma Bale, of 4, Trematon Terrace,
Mutley, Plymouth, and the late Thomas Henry Thriscutt Bale. Killed 25 April
1918. Aged 33.
Buried LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY.
The following notes are from Robert Coulson's Biographies
of Officers of the Yorkshire Regiment;-
"Thomas Bale was born on December 22nd 1885 in Manchester.
He joined the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps on May 17th 1915 and was
attached to the Yorkshires on August 20th of that year.
He served as a 2nd Lieutenant on the Somme in 1916 with the 7th Battalion
and was made Lieutenant in July of 1917.
When battalions were reorganised after the German Spring Offensive of March
1918 Lt Bale joined the 2nd Battalion at White Mill camp in the Ypres Salient
on April 18th. There appears to have been a quiet period towards the end of
April with just a few raids and counter raids reported.
Lt Thomas Henry Thriscutt Bale was killed in action during this period on
April 25th 1918 at the age of 33.
He was the son of Emma and the late Thomas Henry Thriscutt Bale of 4 Trematon
Terrace, Plymouth."

In the 1901 census he was living in Plymouth and was a clerk in a wine merchant's.
He married Ethel Mary Carter Jago on 3 April 1910.
In the 1911 census he was a manager, wines and spirits, and living in Tavistock
(Devon).
He and his his wife had a daughter, Edith (aged 4 months).
