14th (2nd Barnsley) Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. Formerly (24058)
Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Ellen Britton, of 4, Lowthian Terrace,
Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. Died 2 July 1917. Aged 22.
Born Stockton, Enlisted Richmond, Resided Stockton.
Buried DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY, ETRUN.
Robert Britton was born in Stockton in Q3 1896.
In the 1911Cennsus he was an Engine Cleaner, living 54 Laycock St., Newport
Rd., Middlesbrough.
In 1915 he was living at 14 Lothian Terrace, Port Clarence.
He attested for service in the Yorkshire Regiment on 15 September 1915.
He was a temporary (actng) Lance Corporal in the 81st Training Reserve before
being posted as a Private to the York and Lancaster Regiment.
His Service Record survives.
