Sergeant George Richard HILL, MM. 9881.
Sergeant George Richard Hill fought with the 2nd Battalion, and was one of
the original members of the Battalion who embarked for service in Belgium
in October 1914.
He is thought to be the soldier standing third from right in the photo of
"survivors" of the 2nd battalion.
Sergeant Hill was born in Camberwell in 1893.
He enlisted with the 2nd Battalion, and was promoted to Sergeant on 5 October
1914.
He served with the 2nd Battalion until March 1917, when he was severely wounded.
He was awarded the Military Medal in March 1917.
He died in Dulwich, London, in 1962 or 1963.
The photo of Sergeant Hill was taken at a family wedding.
