9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 412213 DLI. Son of John and Margaret McBriarty; husband of Margaret Gazley (formerly McBriarty), of 47, Fisher Hill, Low Walker, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Killed 5 October 1918. Aged 28.
Born Byker (Newcastle), Enlisted Walker, Resided Newcastle-on-Tyne.
This casualty's name has been added to the Addenda Panel on the VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, having previously been on the Giavera Memorial (from which it has been removed).

William Briarty was a machinist who worked in ship building.
He was married to Margaret, and they had five children, - William Joseph, Kathleen, James Gerald, John T, and Mary May.
