Private Fred NICHOLSON, 148262.

Private Fred Nicholson was originally with the 9th Battalion (service number = 16766).
He was with the 9th Battalion when it arrived in Boulogne on 27 August 1915.
Private Nicholson was wounded in action with the Battalion, thought to be on 1 January 1916 when the Battalion was first involved in a significant action.

We are very grateful to Norman Nicholson (<micknicholson1@btinternet.com>), grandson of Fred Nicholson, for the photos and information below.

Both Fred and Harry Nicholson came from Masham in North Yorkshire.
Fred Nicholson fought with the 9th Battalion and was wounded in January 1916. On recovering from his wounds, he was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps, with whom he served for the rest of the war.
