2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Emma Jane Dewhirst (formerly Stansfield), of East Longley, Norland, Yorks. Killed 9 April 1917. Aged 32.
Born Sowerby Bridge, Enlisted Halifax, Resided Sowerby Bridge.
Buried NEUVILLE-VITASSE ROAD CEMETERY.

Born Sowerby Bridge, Enlisted Halifax, Resided Sowerby Bridge.
(In Soldiers Died in the Great War he is listed under "James Stansfield", and shown as being in the 5th Battalion.)

Private Stansfield was killed at the Battle of Arras.
On the 9th April the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment lost 1 officer and 23 men killed, and 5 officers and 84 men wounded. 2 men were posted as missing.
