Lance Serjeant Leonard TOWNSEND. 11664.

6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Sarah E. Townsend, of 30, Harold Rd., Upton Park, London. Was previously Yeo. of Sigs. in H M. Navy. Educated at Ellen St. School, Hove, Sussex. Killed 7 August 1915. Aged 35.
Born Hove, Enlisted London, Wendley.
Commemorated on Panel 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.

Two of Leonard Townsend's brothers, - Frederick Charles (Royal Naval Division) and John George (Royal Navy) were also killed in the First World War. A fourth brother was killed while serving overseas in China in 1900.
