Private Charles WAISTELL, 19568.
7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John and Grace Waistell, of 4,
First Street East, Easington Colliery, Co. Durham. Killed 1 July 1916. Aged
17.
Born Middleston Moor (Durham), Enlisted Darlington, Resided Easington Colliery.
Buried FRICOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.
(NOTES :
1. Charles' brother, James, also in the 7th Battalion was killed 4 months
later and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
2. In the CWGC Register, Charles' age is given as 19. However, his correct
age at time of death was only 17, as he was born on 27 July 1898. Ref : Sheila

As the Charles Waistell first served in France on 3 September 1915 (ref. Medal Rolls Index card), this means that he would have first joined the Yorkshire Regiment aged just 16.
