The St. Helens Cenotaph is in Victoria Square opposite the Council Offices and records over 2000 names from the First World War and over 500 casualties of the Second World War.

The St. Helens Roll of Honour has a list of all the names commemorated on the Cenotaph as having lost their lives in the First World War, with regiment served in and rank.

Private Joseph William Potter. 64835. 6th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 17/30114 Cheshire Regt. Died 5 January 1919.
Born Stockton-on-Tees, Enlisted Liverpool, Resided St. Helen's (Lancs).
Buried MURMANSK NEW BRITISH CEMETERY.
(The website, St. Helens Roll of Honour, provides the following additional information on Private Joseph William Potter, - obtained from the "Burnley Reporter" of 15 January 1919.
His residence in Burnley was at 13 Argyle Street. In the 1911 Census he was shown as being a "Miner Drawer" and living with his brother and family at 16 Argyle Street, Burnley.
He died of poisoning.)

Private John Swift. 52135. 6th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, formerly 13822 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 23 October 1918. Aged 36.
Born St. Helens (Lancs), Enlisted Seaham Harbour (Durham), Resided St. Helens (Lancs).
Buried NEUVILLY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Lance Corporal Robert Woosey. 270459. 5th/6th Battalion Royal Scots, formerly 9616 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 11 August 1918.
Born St. Helens (Lancs), Enlisted St. Helens.
Buried BOUCHOIR NEW BRITISH CEMETERY.
