The War Memorial for Strensall
Photo : Harry H Punter of the Strensall
Local History Group.
Strensall War Memorial is located on Main Street and takes the form of a Celtic wheel cross. The memorial is composed of a four stepped base, square plinth, shaft and wheel cross. At the base of the shaft there is a relief of a First World War soldier with his head bowed, holding a reversed rifle.
The names of those commemorated (17 for the First World War,
and 6 for the Second World War) are carved on the faces of the plinth.
Five soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this
memorial.
We are most grateful to Harry H Punter of the Strensall Local History Group for permission to use his photographs of the memorial, and who provided the names of the men of the Yorkshire Regiment commemorated on this memorial.
