An Officer of the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on his family headstone in Sutton Coldfield cemetery.

The headstone originally commemorated Agnes McCarthy, the Officer's mother. Agnes McCarthy's husband, Major John McCarthy of the RASC, died two years later and was buried beside his wife in this cemetery. Major McCarthy lived in the Lewisham area of London, but had been stationed in Sutton Coldfield in 1917 when his wife passed away.

Their son, 2nd Lieutenant Noel Fisher McCarthy of the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this headstone.

We are very grateful to Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) for providing information on the McCarthy family, and to Derek Walker for the photos of the headstone and the cemetery.
