(George Hetherington is referred to as "George Hethrington" on the Thiepval Memorial, in CWGC and SDGW records and in the Yorkshire Regiment Roll of Honour.
However, the family memorial in Bishop Auckland Town Cemetery refers to him as "George Hetherington" as does his Pension Ledger Record Card which mentions a Sarah Ann Barras (Guardian) residing in Bishop Auckland and a child Monica Hetherington. The 1901 Census has a George Hetherington aged 10, born spennymoor, in the Bishop Auckland Workhouse. Also in the Workshouse was an Annie Hetherington aged 42. His parents, - see below, were John and Annie Hetherington.)

Lieutenant George Graham Hicking. 6th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, formerly 11th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Joseph William and Kate Florence Hicking, of Halsey House, Pittville, Cheltenham, formerly of Ruddington, Notts. His brother Francis Joseph Hicking also fell. Killed 1 July 1916. Aged 22.
Commemorated on Addenda Panel, Pier and Face 4 C, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
(Lieutenant Hicking was one of a number of 11th Battalion Officers who fought with other regiments from early 1915 onwards.
His brother, 2nd Lieutenant Francis Joseph Hicking was killed on the same day aged 19, and is buried in FRICOURT NEW CEMETERY.
