The Thorngumbald War Memorial is attached to the Thorngumbald Community Institute. This building, situated beside a small Wesleyan Methodist chapel, is on the main road through the village, - the A1033.

As well as listing those from Thorngumbald who served, nine men are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War. Amongst these names is that of one soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment.

Private William Brown. 33702. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Alfred and Ann Brown, of Thorngumbald, Hull. Killed 25 May 1918.
Born Thorngumbald (Yorks), Enlisted Beverley, Resided Paull.
Buried HOUCHIN BRITISH CEMETERY.
