The Thornton-le-Moor War Memorial.

The War Memorial for Thornton-le-Moor is located in the churchyard of St. Barnabas' Church, Thornton-le-Moor. The church itself was demolished in 1987, but the churchyard remains as consecrated ground. The memorial is in the form of a simple cross made out of marble.
The memorial commemorates 9 men who lost their lives in the First World War, and 3 who died in the Second World War.
Two soldiesr who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.
Private Charles Goltry Neesome. 201842. 4th Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James and Rachel Neesome, of Thornton-le-Moor,
Northallerton, Yorks. Killed 15 September 1916. Aged 35.
Born Thornton-le-Moor (Yorks), Enlisted Northallerton.
Commemorated Pier and Face 15 A and 15 B, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
Lance Corporal Edward Alderson Osborne. 3809. 4th Battalion
Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 17 September 1916. Aged 27.
Born Witcham Mines (Cumberland), Enlisted Northallerton, Resided Thornton-le-Moor.
Buried ADANAC MILITARY CEMETERY, MIRAUMONT.
SDGW has this soldier listed as "Richard Alderson Osborne". However,
research using the Medal Rolls Index card and census data confirms that he
was "Edward Alderson Osborne". In the 1911 census he was working
as a photographer in Northallerton.
