The names of those on the War Memorial are below. Men of the Yorkshire Regiment are shown in bold type, and their details are shown beneath the list of names.

(1) The two "Birkitt" names are shown linked on the
Memorial, were brothers. The correct family name is "Burkitt"
(2) Shown on the Snape Castle War memorial as "J Clark"
(3) Another incorrectly spelled name. This is "F Dumville" of the
South Staffs Regiment, who is buried in the churchyard.
(4) Correct name is "J I Johnson".

Born Well, Enlisted Leyburn, Resided Aysgarth.
Commemorated Bay 5, ARRAS MEMORIAL.
Private John Ingham Johnson, 18772. 7th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
Died of Wounds 8 August 1915.
Born Snape, Enlisted Richmond, Resided Snape.
Buried VOORMEZEELE ENCLOSURE No.3.
Private Josias Oyston. 26581. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son
of Henry and Mary Jane Oyston, of Snape, Bedale, Yorks. Killed 31 August 1916.
Aged 24.
Born Thornaby-on-Tees, Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Snape (Bedale).
Buried BERKS CEMETERY EXTENSION.
Private Mark Roper. 5697. 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, formerly
28614 Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas R. and Mary Ann Roper, of Masham,
Yorks; husband of Florence E. Roper, of The Schoolhouse, Well, Bedale, Yorkshire.
Killed 5 November 1916. Aged 38.
Born Leeds, Enlisted Masham, Resided Well (Bedale - Yorks).
Buried WARLENCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.
Lance Corporal Harold Victor Steel, MM, 38500. 9th Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Killed (Italy) 7 September 1918. Aged 21.
Son of William and Sarah Ann Steel, of Snape Bedale, Yorkshire.
Born Albough, Enlisted Bedale, Resided Snape.
Buried MAGNABOSCHI BRITISH CEMETERY.
