Inside the Church of the Holy Trinity, Wensley, there is a brass plaque which commemorates the men of the village who lost their lives in the First World War. Three of those men served in the Yorkshire Regiment.
Another brass plaque commemorates two seaman who lost their lives when their ships were sunk.
There is also a stained glass windown, installed by the family of Lieutenant Percy Orde-Powlett of the Yorkshire Regiment, which commemorates that officer who was killed in May 1915.

The brass wall plaque in the Church of the Holy Trinity, Wensley, is inscribed as follows;-

"To the Glory of God and in Hallowed Memory of the Men of This Parish Who Made the Supreme Sacrifice in the Great War of 1914 - 1918"

Harold William Scrivener and Robert Henry Wilson are both commemorated on a separate brass plaque within the Church. Both were Engine Room Artificers in the Royal Navy (Scrivener on H M S "Queen Mary", and Wilson on H M S "Black Prince"). As the plaque states "Both were born and educated in this parish and went down with their respective ships in the action off Jutland, 31 May 1916"


Lieutenant William Percy Orde-Powlett, 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Hon. A. and Mrs. Orde-Powlett, now 5th Baron Bolton and Lady Bolton, of Bolton Hall, Leyburn, Yorks. Killed on 17 May 1915. Aged 21.
Commemorated Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.

Lance Corporal Alfred Ward Salmon. 241698. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home 16 February 1919. Aged 36.
Resided Leyburn.
Buried DARLINGTON WEST CEMETERY.

L/Cpl Alfred Salmon was a grocer's assistant who worked in Leyburn, but his mother and brother lived in Darlington. He was discharged from the army on 15 April 1918 as a result of wounds. Although his relatives were awarded a commemorative plaque and scroll, he is not listed in the CWGC records.

, 3/9456. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed on 8 July 1916.
Born Leyburn (Yorks), Enlisted Richmond.
Buried LONDON CEMETERY AND EXTENSION, LONGUEVAL.
