The War Memorial for Whitburn (Tyne and Wear)

The War Memorial for Whitburn (Tyne and Wear) is located in Front Street, on the village green not far from the parish church.
The commemoration on the memorial is shown in further detail in a photograph below. Three faces are dedicated to those who fell in the First World War. There is also a commemorative plaque for the men of Marsden District who gave their lives in both World Wars. Another plaque commemorates those from Whitburn who lost their lives in the Second World War. Photographs of all these commemorations are shown below.
One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the memorial.
Lance Corporal Ralph Cuthbert Hutchinson, 13888. 10th
Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 28 October 1916. Aged 23.
Born Whitburn (Durham), Enlisted Sunderland.
Buried VERMELLES BRITISH CEMETERY.
