The War Memorial outside the Church of St. John, Winster, Derbyshire, includes the name of one soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment.
In the churchyard there is a family memorial in which this soldier, and his brother, are also commemorated.
Private Arthur Walker. 235462. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment,
formerly 7929 Northumberland Fus. Son of Ada Ingman, of East Bank, Winster,
Matlock. Killed 17 July 1917. Aged 31.
Born Winster, Enlisted Bakewell, Resided Winster (Derby).
Buried LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY.

Richard Clarke of the Derby and Derbyshire War Memorials Project kindly forwarded a pair of clippings from Derbyshire Courier newspaper concerning Arthur Walker. His photo appeared in the issue for 11th August 1917 and the article was in the issue of 31st July 1917.
