The Woodville (Derbyshire) War Memorial for the Granville Estate

The Granville Estate War memorial in Woodville, Derbyshire, is situated at the corner of Frederick Street and Bernard Street in Woodville. There are 38 names on the memorial, including that of Private Albert Canner of the Yorkshire Regiment.

Richard Roberts (<richard.nsw@googlemail.com>) provided the information that Albert Canner was born in 1892 the son of Thomas and Emily Canner of Woodville. The name below his is that of his brother, Thomas Arthur Canner who served in the King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regt.). Thomas Canner died in Greece on 6 December 1918 (towards the end of the influenza epidemic).


Private Albert Canner. 36021. 25th (Tyneside Irish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, formerly 5/37160 the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 12 October 1917.
Born Gresley (Derby), Enlisted Burton-on-Trent (Staffs).
