Roger Frisby of the Channel Islands Great War Study Group has kindly allowed us to use the photographs of the Alderney War Memorial and the list of transcribed names on the Yorkshire Regiment Remembrance website.

32 names are commemorated on the War Memorial for Alderney. The names are on four faces at the base of the column. The names have been transcribed by the website for "The Channel Islands in the Great War".

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on this War Memorial.


Private Edward William Pippard. 10310. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Alice Eliza Pomroy (formerly Pippard), of St. John's Rd., St. Peter Port, Guernsey, and the late Alfred John Pippard. Killed 8 July 1916. Aged 22.
Born St. Sampson's (Guernsey), Enlisted Alderney (C I).
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
(Edward Pippard was in the 2nd Battalion which landed in Belgium in October 1914 and which took part in the First Battle of Ypres.)
