The War Memorial in St. Mary's Church, Barnsley, must be one of the most distinctive and unusual memorials of its kind. The memorial stands 12 - 15 ft high (see adjacent chairs for scale), with the commemorative panels at about the 6ft mark.

Private John William Dewsnap. 24590. 2nd Battalion
the Yorkshire Regiment, attached 254th Coy Royal Engineers. Son of George
Dewsnap, of 44, Henry St., Worsboro' Bridge, Barnsley, Yorks. Killed 12 August
1917.
Born Worsborough (Yorks), Enlisted Barnsley.
Buried LIJSSENTHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY.

Private Walter Whysall. 48162. 13th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment, formerly 5/71817 87th T R Battn. Killed 13 October 1918.
Born Barnsley, Enlisted Pontefract, Resided Barnsley.
Commemorated on the MALBORK MEMORIAL.
