The Buslingthorpe (Leeds) War Memorial was originally located in St. Michael's Church. However, this church was demolished in the late 1950s= early 1960s.
The memorial was then transferred to St. Mark's Church, Woodhouse (Leeds). This church was built as a Church of England Commissioners' Church between 1823 and 1826. St Mark's was one of three Commissioner churches built in Leeds, it is the only one to survive. The church was made redundant in 2005, but since closure it was renovated by Gateway Church in 2014 after falling into a state of disrepair.
The Buslingthorpe War Memorial consists of three stone panels, with oak surrounds. The names commemorated are incised in upper case lettering into these three panels.
272 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.
13 soldiers who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the memorial, though there is sone uncertanty with respect to a couple of names.
We are edxtremely grateful to David Cole (<david.cole@gatewayleeds.net>) of St. Mark;s Church for hvainbf photographed the memorial.
