Right at the head of Bransdale, in the tiny hamlet of Cockayne, you can find the Church of St. Nicholas. There is a single War Grave in the cemetery, - still tended and looked after. The grave belongs to Colour Sergeant A P Wilson of the 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Details are below;-

4th Battalion Yorkshire Regt. Died 2 December 1918. Aged 34.
Son of Thomas and Emma Wilson of Great Ayton. Husband of Muriel Wilson of the Old Parsonage, Bransdale.
Enlisted Stokesley, Resided Kirbymoorside.
