St, Mary's Church, Eryholme, dates back to 1150. The church is still in use.
In the churchyard there is a family grave whose headstone commemorates a soldier of the Yorkshire Regiment who lost his life after service at Gallipoli, and who was buried at sea.

The Monumental Inscription reads; -
In loving memory of James Thomas Page Ex - Sergt Green Howards, died of wounds
from South African War Jun 11th 1907 beloved Husband of Ann Page, died May
1st 1946 aged 76 years. Also of their sons James Percival, Pte Green
Howards, died of wounds Nov 19 1915 aged 19 Years, buried at Sea and William
Dane died in Sydney, Australia, Aug 28 1932 aged 33 Yrs and George Thomas
Ellis, died Aug 9th 1952 aged 60 years.

Son of Ann Page, of 45, Lowson St., Darlington, and the late Serjt. J. T.
Page (3rd Bn. Yorkshire Regt.). Died 19 November 1915. Aged 19.
Born Richmond (Yorks), Enlisted Dover, Resided Darlington.
