Richard Roberts provides the following background information on the inclusion of John Neal on the Neal family headstone;-

"The grandparents (Robert & Rhoda Neal) mentioned on the headstone both originally came from Weeting in Norfolk. At first I tried to make the obvious connection that John Robert was the son of James their son also
mentioned on the headstone. However, I couldn't show that James had a son so named.

The 1871 Census for Weeting lists the Robert and Rhoda Neal family and reveals that James had a younger brother named George (born 1865) and it turns out that it is he who is John Robert's father. The 1901 Stanghow Census has George Neal born Weeting in 1865 and his wife Elizabeth Ann with their family including John Robert born 1894 and an Irene Rhoda so the children are named after their grandparents.

Thus the Neal family memorial commemorates John, his uncle James and grandparents, Robert and Rhoda."

2nd Lieutenant Guy Storey Townsend. 5th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, attached to Machine Gun Corps (Infantry). Son of Mr. J. J. and Mrs. L. A. Townsend, of 7, Severs St., South Bank, Yorks. Killed 23 August 1918. Aged 26.
Buried BONNAY COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION.

Richard Roberts provides the following background information on the inclusion of Lieutenant Townsend on the Shaddock family headstone;-

"Whilst it seems strange that his (Townsend's) name should appear on this particular headstone, I have found a possible explanation. His father was John James Townsend who in the Dec Qtr of 1887 married Lucy Ann Shaddock.
So there is a family relationship to the Shaddocks commemorated on the headstone. However, precisely what that was remains a mystery to me despite trying to trace a link through all the Census records right back to 1841. I thought that James and Maria might be Lucy's grandparents, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Guy Storey Townsend sounds as though he should have been "officer class". In fact, he came from a modest background (his father was an ironstone miner) and rose through the ranks; according to the Medal Rolls he was at one time A/Cpl 200736 of the Yorkshire Regiment."
