The War Memorial outside the parish Church for Crakehall is dedicated as follows;-

"IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR FREEDOM'S CAUSE IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918."

At the base of the memorial is written,
"SONS OF THIS PLACE LET THIS OF YOU BE SAID
THAT YOU WHO LIVE ARE WORTHY OF THE DEAD.
THEY GAVE THEIR LIVES THAT YOU WHO LIVE MAY REAP
A RICHER HARVEST ERE YOU FALL ASLEEP."

L/Cpl John Lodge, 28123. 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Jane Lodge of Flood Bridge Farm, Bedale. Husband of Alice lodge Crakehall, Bedale Yorkshire. Killed 26 March 1918. Aged 32
Born Bedale, Enlisted Bedale, Resided Crakehall.
Buried HAM BRITISH CEMETERY, MUILLE-VILLETTE.

Private Charles Edgerton Reynolds. 235261. 12th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment ( Teesside Pioneers). Son of Robert H and Laura Reynolds of langthorne Bedale. Killed 11 April 1918. Aged 20.
Born Crakehall. Enlisted Bedale. Resided Langthorne.
Commemorated Panel 4, PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL.

Company Sergeant Major John Henry Metcalfe. 384736. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late John Metcalfe of Bedale. Husband of Emma Metcalfe of 6 West Powlett Street, Darlington. He served in the South African campaign in the Coldstream Guards. Killed 21 August 1915. Aged 32.
Born Crakehall. Enlisted Richmond. Resided Darlington.
Commemorated Panel 55 to 58, HELLES MEMORIAL.

Private Lupton Stelling. 44188. 7th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, formerly 22798 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Lupton and Martha Elizabeth Stelling, of Station House, Crakehall, Bedale, Yorks. Killed 27 August 1918. Aged 21.
Born Crakehall (Yorks), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Crakehall (Yorks).
Buried FIENVILLERS BRITISH CEMETERY.

Private John William Jackson Thompson. 24470. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Thompson, of Little Crakehall, Bedale, Yorks. Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 20.
Born Burniston (Yorks), Enlisted Crakehall (Bedale).
Commemorated on Pier and Face 3 A and 3 D, THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
