Kelly College was a coeducational independent school situated in the outskirts of Tavistock, Devon, with around 350 students ranging from ages 3 to 18; there was an associated preparatory school for primary school children, Kelly College Preparatory School, nearby. In June 2014, the school formally merged with Mount House School to form Mount Kelly School.

Kelly College was opened in October 1877 with 12 boys.The school has since grown and changed a great deal and girls were admitted into the Sixth Form in 1970.

A War Memorial in the form of a wheel cross is situated in front of the main school buildings.

39 names are commemorated on the memorial as having lost their lives in the First World War.

One Officer who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the War Memorial.


2nd Lieutenant Horace Gordon Tozer. 3rd Battalion, attached 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. J. C. Tozer, and the late James Clark Tozer. Killed 1 October 1915. Aged 21.
Commemorated on Panels 44 and 45, LOOS MEMORIAL.
The following notes are from Robert Coulson's Biographies of Officers of the Yorkshire Regiment;-
"Horace Tozer was born in Devonport on September 9th 1895.
He received his commission on February 17th 1915 from the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps and was attached to the 2nd Yorkshires on June 21st of that year.
July and August saw the battalion constantly on the move between Bethune, Noyelles and Vermelles where they were when the Battle of Loos opened.
2nd Lt Tozer was with “A” company when they went into action in late September around Hulloch and Cite St Elie close to Loos.
2nd Lt Horace Gordon Tozer was killed in action in Gun Trench on October 1st 1915 aged 21 just as the battalion were about to be relieved."
