The War Memorial for Linton (Cambs) is a stone obelisk surmounting a two-stepped base. The dedication and commemorations are on the face of the memorial.
The memorial is located in Linton Cemetery, Back Street, Linton.

There is also a memorial in the Church of St. Mary, Linton. This memorial, in the form of a wooden plaque, has the same names commemorated as on the War Memorial in the cemetery. The memorial is described in the Roll of Honour website.

46 names are commemorated on the Linton War Memorial as having lost their lives in the First World War, and 13 in the Second World War.

One soldier who served with the Yorkshire Regiment is commemorated on the War Memorial.


Private Stanley Ely. 240889. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 27 May 1918.
Enlisted Driffield, Resided Seaton (Hull).
Commemorated on the SOISSONS MEMORIAL.

(Stanley Ely's name is spelled "Eley" on the memorial. In the 1911 census, the alternative spelling is also provided.
In the 1911 census, he is shown as living with his mother, Elizabeth, in Back Lane, Linton.
Stanley Ely was 17 years old and a farm labourer. He had 4 brothers, William (18), Earnest (16), Frederick (11), and Herbert (8).)
