The Memorial Cross outside St. Oswald's Church, Lythe, is inscribed;-

(West Side) TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918.

UNTO GOD'S GRACIOUS MERCY WE COMMIT THEM. THE LORD BLESS THEM AND KEEP THEM. MAY THE LORD LIFT UP THE LIGHT OF HIS COUNTENANCE UNTO THEM AND GIVE THEM PEACE BOTH NOW AND FOR EVERMORE. AMEN.

(*) William B Taylor is listed as William Bedlington, step-brother of Percy Taylor. Was of the East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 10 September 1916.

Private Henry Atkinson, 26455. 7th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 1 July 1916.
Buried FRICOURT BRITISH CEMETERY.
Born Lythe (Yorks), Enlisted Saltburn, Resided Moorsholm.

Private Harry Gibbon, 26343. 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home, 14 March 1916. Aged 23.
Buried LYTHE (St. OSWALD's) CHURCHYARD.
Born Lazenby (Eston, Yorks), Enlisted Redcar, Resided Eston.

Private John W Gibbon, 44723. 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Died at home, 4 July 1921.
Buried LYTHE (St. OSWALD's) CHURCHYARD.

Private Harry Pybus, 14351. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of John Thirlwell Pybus and Mary Pybus, of Clematis Cottage, East Row, Sandsend, Whitby. Killed 27 September 1915.
Buried PONT-DU-HEM MILITARY CEMETERY, LA GORGUE.
Born Whitby (Yorks), Enlisted Whitby.

Private John Henry Walker, 30364. 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late Thomas and Jane Walker; husband of Lucy Walker, of Hoar Cross, Burton-on-Trent. Killed 22 March 1918. Aged 40
Commemorated Panel 31 and 32, Pozieres Memorial.
Born Newton Mulgrave, Enlisted Whitby, Resided Lythe.
