The First World War Memorial in St. John's Church, MiddlesbroughThe First World War Memorial in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, South Bank, Middlesbrough
Photo : Bolckow

The Church of St. John the Evangelist, South Bank, Middlesbrough, is located at the junction of Redcar Road East and Normanby Road.
(Note : The parish church of St. John's in Middlesbrough is located at 114 Marton Road and is quite separate from St. John's church in South Bank, Middlesbrough.)

The First World War Memorial in in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, South Bank, Middlesbrough, consists of a wall-mounted memorial tablet with 14 panels bearing the names of those parishioners who lost their lives in the First World War.
The memorial is described in the Imperial War Museum's Register of War Memorials website as being a "carved rood screen".
This is not the case, and the actual FirstWorld War Memorial is a board with 14 panels, with the names commemorated being painted in gold upper case.

200 names are commemorated, of whom 48 served in the Yorkshire Regiment.

We are very grateful to Bolckow for his photos (posted on Flickr) of the church and this memorial.
