Seven large bronze panels surmounted by a semi-circular bronze plaque, behind glass and facing outwards in what was a window of the Cemetery Chapel, which was converted into a Crematorium in 1951. In the semi-circular upper plaque are laurel leaves and a crown with the dates 1914-1918.
Note: Previously, a memorial cross stood outside the building. This was moved to Crowgill Park, Shipley, in 1951.

634 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War.

15 men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on this memorial.


Private William Bousfield, 235342. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Formerly 3675 Northumberland Fusiliers.
Son of Thomas and Mary Bousfield, of II, James St., Wood Bottom, Baildon; husband of Minnie Bousfield, of 14, Sun Place, Baildon Wood Bottom, Shipley. Killed 20 September 1917. Aged 25.
Born Bradford, Enlisted Bradford, Resided Baildon (Shipley).

Private John Herbert Lee Hall, 42646. 8th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 29/1218 Northumberland Fus. Son of William and Ada Hall, of Windhill, Shipley, Yorks; husband of Mary Robinson (formerly Hall), of 21, Linden Avenue, Cottingham, Hull. Killed 20 September 1917. Aged 23.

Private Willie Halliday, 36790. 1st/4th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, formerly 4318 the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Annie Halliday, of 4, Atkinson St., Shipley, Yorks. Killed 14 December 1917. Aged 19.
Enlisted Halifax.

Private John George Hammell. 15156. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Mary Broadhead, of 68, Aire St., Windhill, Shipley, Yorks. Killed 10 July 1916. Aged 21.

Private Frederick William Harris, 21956. 1st Garrison Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, formerly 1411 Wets Yorks Regt. Son of Herbert and Matilda Harris, of Gloucester; husband of Annie Harris, of Windhill, Shipley, W. Yorks. Died 3 November 1918. Aged 42.
Born Cheltenham (Glos), Enlisted Bradford, Resided Windhill (Shipley - Yorks).

Private Francis Hennighen. 11047. 6th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Killed 29 September 1916.

2nd Lieutenant Sydney Ferguson Jowett. 12th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, attached to 5th Battalion. Son of Ferguson Marshall Jowett and Emily Jowett. Killed 27 May 1918. Aged 24.

The following notes are from Robert Coulson's Biographies of Officers of the Yorkshire Regiment;
A South Yorkshireman, Sydney Jowett was born at Treeton near Rotherham in 1893.
He served as a Private and Corporal with the Northumberland Fusiliers before gaining his commission.
2nd Lt Jowett joined the 12th Battalion, Teesside Pioneers at Havrincourt in early November 1917 and was in action at Bourlon Wood during the Cambrai battle later in the month.
January and February of 1918 were spent around Mory and when the German Spring Offensive opened on March 21st the 12th Battalion were at Heudecourt and were immediately moved into the line at Hamlincourt. They fought a rearguard action until March 31st when they found themselves at Rue au Bois.
With very little rest, 2nd Lt Jowett and the 12th Battalion were then pitched into the Battle of the Lys for five days between April 6th and April 11th.
On April 13th 1918 2nd Lt Jowett and two other officers were transferred to the 5th Battalion and on the 25th of the month went into the line with them on the ridge of the Chemin des Dames.
With the battalion on the Craonne Plateau in what was thought to be a quiet area a large enemy attack fell on them during which 2nd Lt Sydney Ferguson Jowett was killed in action on May 27th 1918 at the age of 24.

Private James Lister, 7637. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of James and Emma Louisa Lister, of Addingham, Yorks.; husband of Mary Susannah Lister, of 32, Dale St., Hargreaves Square, Shipley, Yorks. Killed 2 April 1917. Aged 29.
Born Addingham (Skipton, Yorks), Enlisted Richmond (Yorks), Resided Shipley.

Lance Corporal Charles Long. 22875. 10th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Charles and Georgianna Long, of 92, Shipley Fields Rd., Frizinghall, Bradford, Yorks. Born at Shipley, Yorks. Killed 15 March 1916. Aged 24.

Buried CITE BONJEAN MILITARY CEMETERY.

Private Walter Rennard Nuttall. 66201. 1st Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Died 8 January 1920.
Buried JERUSALEM WAR CEMETERY.
