The War Memorial for Stamford Bridge

The Stamford Bridge War Memorial is situated in the churchyard of st. John the Baptist Church.
The memorial is a stone Calvary Cross with a gabled roof and a stone figure of Christ crucified on the shaft of the cross. The shaft surmounts a tall stone pedestal with the commemorations and dedication in black incised lettering. The whole memorial rests on a deep stone base.
11 names are commemorated as having lost their lives in the First World War and 3 in the Second World War, with i name commemorated from a subsequent conflict.
There is also a commemorative Roll of Honour inside the Church of St. John the Baptist.
3 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the memorials.
Corporal William Bass, 25110. 16th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment,
transferred to (13232) 23rd Coy Labour Corps.
Son of Jane Bass, of Stamford Bridge, York. Died 9 October 1918.
Buried MONT HUON MILITARY CEMETERY, LE TREPORT.
Lance Corporal Henry Rennison. 1435. 5th Battalion the Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of Robert and Alice Rennison, of Stamford Bridge, York. Died
at home 12 April 1916. Aged 25.
Born Stamford Bridge (Yorks), Enlisted Sand Hutton, Resided Stamford Bridge.
Buried STAMFORD BRIDGE (ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST) CHURCHYARD.
Private Gerald Stockdale. 60262. 4th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment,
formerly24759 East Yorks Regt. Died at home 19 July 1918. Aged 27.
Born Stamford Bridge (Yorks), Enlisted Stamford Bridge.
Buried STAMFORD BRIDGE (ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST) CHURCHYARD.
