The original Methodist Church for Thornaby was the Cleveland Methodist Church (built as Wesleyan). This church stood on Mandale Road at about NZ 455 182, and was still standing in 1969. However, the site is now under the A66 dual carriageway after the church was demolished and replaced by a modern church in Peel Street, Thornaby.

Surviving is a First World War Roll of Honour, which is published on the Picture Stockton Archive website.

31 men associated with this chapel were killed during the 1914- 1918 war and are shown on the Roll of Honour.

12 soldiers who served in the Yorkshire Regiment are commemorated on the Roll of Honour.

Serjeant Isaac Arthur Brogden, 20826. 12th Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Charles and Susannah Brogden, of Thornaby-on-Tees; husband of Jane Brogden, of 72, Stanley St., Norton, Stockton-on-Tees. Killed 22 March 1918. Aged 35.
Born Thornaby (Yorks), Enlisted Middlesbrough, Resided Thornaby-on-Tees.
Buried BAC-DU-SUD BRITISH CEMETERY, BAILLEULVAL.

Private Roy Brown, 58755. 31st Coy Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 32623 Yorkshire Regiment. Killed on 12 April 1918.
Born York, Enlisted Thornaby-on-Tees.

Private John Richard Donnison, 3/7810. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Richard and Amy Donnison, of 9, Erimus Terrace, Thornaby-on-Tees, Yorks. Killed on 12 March 1915. Aged 20.

Company Serjeant Major John Harrison, 8929. 8th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Husband of Emily Harrison, of 17, Queen Street East, Thornaby-on-Tees. Killed on 7 June 1917. Aged 39.

Serjeant Harry Hylton Reed, 35265. 185th Coy. Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), formerly 24278 Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Mary Reed, of 91, Gilmour St., Thornaby-on-Tees; husband of Laura Lewis (formerly Reed), of 16, Winston St., Stockton-on-Tees. Killed 15 February 1917. Aged 27.

Lance Corporal William Edward Twist,8688. 10th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of Mrs. Mary Twist; husband of Edith Marion Morland (formerly Twist), of 12, Victoria Rd., Thornaby-on-Tees, Co. Durham. Killed on 17 November 1915. Aged 32.
Born Bishop Auckland, Enlisted Thornaby-on-Tees.
Commemorated on the HOLLYBROOK MEMORIAL, SOUTHAMPTON.
(Lost when HS Anglia, a hospital ship, was sunk by mine off Dover on 17 November 1915.)

Private John George Wales. 28551. 9th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Son of William and Sarah Ellen Wales, of 40, Charles St., Redcar, Yorks. Killed 1 October 1917. Aged 20.
