The War Memorial for Wheatley Hill is a cross with the following inscription on its base
"IN MEMORY OF THOSE OF THIS VILLAGE WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 ALSO 1939 - 1945"
Further down is inscribed
"When you go home tell them of US and say - for your tomorrows WE GAVE OUR TODAY."
On either side of the cross are two panels, bearing the names of men who lost their lives in both World Wars, as well as the Korean War.

The memorial is situated outside the Parish Rooms / Mining Heritage Centre in Wheatley Hill Cemetery. There are 184 names for soldiers of the First World War, of whom 25 were soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment.
There are 39 names for soldiers of the Second World War, and 1 for the Korean War.
