The Mirfield War Memorial

The Mirfield War Memorial stands inside Ings Grove Park on the A644 Huddersfield Road in Mirfield. The names of 265 men who lost their lives in the First World War are commemorated on plaques fixed to the screen wall behind the cross. The names included 5 men who served with the Yorkshire Regiment (though, curiously, do not include the two men who served in the Yorkshire Regiment and who are buried in Mirfield (St. Mary) Churchyard).
Private Fred Booth. 235291. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Son of John Thomas and Annie Booth, of Lee Green, Mirfield, Yorks.
Killed 3 August 1917. Aged 19.
Enlisted Mirfield.
Commemorated on Panel 33, YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL.

Private Harold Midwood, 35494. 2nd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment. Formerly 5/89155 6th T R Battalion. Son of Irvin and Clara Midwood,
of 4, Taylor Hall Lane, Mirfield, Yorks. Died 8 May 1918. Aged
18.

Frances Ellen Sheard, of 55, Hopton Lane, Upper Hopton, Mirfield, Yorks. Killed
3 October 1918. Aged 25.
Born Mirfield, Enlisted Brighouse, Resided Mirfield.
