The War Memorial in Crook.

The War Memorial in Crook is an impressive monument in the town centre. The great majority of names on the memorial are for men of the Durham Light Infantry, but several other regiments, - including the Yorkshire Regiment, are represented.
The four memorial panels are shown as small-sized images below.
Larger sized versions of these images may be obtained by selecting the small
image; close the window that opens to return to this page. The larger sized
images may be used for transcription, if neccessary.
Details of the men of the Yorkshire Regiment are shown below these images.
(Unfortunately, although 6 names appear on the memorial under "Yorks",
only 4 of the names are for the Yorkshire Regiment. The other "Yorks"
names belong to other Yorkshire regiments.)

(Tony Young (<a.a.young@btinternet.com>) has drawn the attention of
this website to the June 1915 "St. Catherine's Journal" (Crook Parish
Magazine) which states that Serjeant Lister was serving as a Police Constable
in Crook when war was declared. He was with a "A" Company of the
2nd Battalion when killed, and had embarked with the 2nd Battalion in October
1914 as a Reservist, - having been a Regular soldier beforehand. Serjeant
Lister's name appears on the Durham
